The Old Bridge over the Danube River in Bratislava
conceptual design of construction of the new bridge and complex design of the launching yard including launching equipment for incremental launching of the steel superstructure of the bridge, Eurovia CS a.s.
Project name: MUNICIPAL TRANSPORT SYSTEM, 2ST PART "BOSÁKOVA ST. – ŠAFÁRIKOVO SQUARE", COMPLEX SECTION 20, OLD BRIDGE
Contractor: Eurovia CS, a.s.
Position of LKM Consult: DESIGNER of mounting yard and devices for assembling of steel superstructure of the new Old Bridge
Termination: 12/2015
Project Description
After removing the old bridge over Danube river in Bratislava, the second phase of the construction starts. From the right bank in Petržalka, a new steel structure over the Danube will be incrementally launched from the launching yard situated in area of the abutment and, after reaching the opposite bank, the side spans will be added. This demanding procedure will be beefed up by a support on a floating support situated in the third and second span of the bridge, where, due to the span length, are exceeded structural limits for incremental launching using free cantilever without any other support. To ensure a proper procedure of the construction, a "manufacturing site" was created for assembly and subsequent welding of the steel structure and the final anti-corrosion protection. After completion of the bridge segments, the steel structure is launched using prestressing bars and hydraulic launching equipment across the Danube River. Besides the manufacturing site, the equipment includes temporary equipment for the launching – bearings with side-guides, hydraulic flap and other fixtures and devices. The construction process for the completition of the bridge sections is designed for usage of two cranes with a capacity up to 200 t per each one.
LKM Consult delivery:
- concept of the bridge construction with incremental launching
- complete technical documentation for the manufacturing site / launching yard
- detailed design of the launching equipment, bearings, hydraulic flaps and other devices
- conceptual design of the floating support, which is supporting bridge superstructure during launching procedure
- author's supervision during the construction
(design of steel structures were produced in collaboration with OKF Ltd.)
